A Thousand Splendid Suns

Right now, my favorite book is "A Thousand Splendid Suns". It was a powerful novel about 2 generations of Afghani women and the struggles they survived in the last 30 years of Afghanistan history.

This novel saturated my very being while I read it - I felt their joys, their terrors, their pain. I could not forget it for a moment as I read it - and I still think of it almost daily - and it's been a month!!

Though I read tons, watch news and see documentaries of all kinds, nothing I had ever read, or seen about the war in Afghanistan affected me as did the novel "A Thousand Splendid Suns". What a great read!

I finally understand the flight of the women and the magnitude of this war. It made me cry and it made me laugh. Support education for women in other counties when you can. Imagine if you could not speak your mind freely.
