J.M. Kearns is back, and this time he is helping us get over past relationships and better our understanding of what went wrong. So many times people fall into the habit of dating the same type of person as in their previous relationships hoping each time that it will be better. This book is designed so that the reader will be able to really think about, and break down, their failed relationships. The goal is not to repeat the same pattern.
There are many reasons why some relationships don't last including incompatibility, infidelity, and mistakes. Kearns touches on them all in a way that brings insight for the reader. This book does not blame one partner or the other, but instead, through humor and conversation-like quality, can provide you with one, or several, "Aha!" moments.

We have all been there, or at least have known someone who has, dealt with a failed relationship. In no way is this a depressing book, in fact, I enjoyed it very much. I laughed a bit and contemplated my past relationships right along with what J.M. Kearns was saying. I felt like I was having a discussion with him but I didn't need to speak. This book was so well written; I finished it with a smile on my face and a heart full of hope.
Generally speaking, book clubs don't focus on self-help as their primary genre, but if you have the courage to talk about your failed relationships, then I think this will make for an excellent book club read. Pour some of your favorite beverages (alcoholic or not) and be prepared to get a better understanding of what went wrong and how to fix it for next time. If you think that it is too deep of a topic for your book club, then grab your closest friends and get ready for an insightful evening!
