Beyond the Shadows of Summer by Jonathan Zemsky

by BookBegger

August 5th 1954, 13 year old James’ kid brother, Brand, dies at the age of 11. Everyone knew that he would not live to see his 20th birthday due to a rare blood disease. One year later James gets his first job at an Illinois County Fair that lasts 10 days. The best 10 days ever for James, he finds his true love, walks to places that he hasn't been since his brother died, and has his first kiss.

Opinion:
I loved this book! In certain parts, I felt tears come to my eyes, I truly felt sad for James and Brand. Jonathan Zemsky did an amazing job, with the writing and how he made you feel for the characters. This book is an absolute page turner, I just HAD to keep on reading. Beyond the Shadows of Summer actually made you feel a part of the 1950s. I can’t believe that this book is Jonathan’s first novel, it seems like he’s been writing for years!

No one should miss out on James’ story!
