Preston Clearwater is a conniving, dangerous, law-breaking individual. Henry Dampier is a young, naïve Bible salesman. Preston meets Henry while Henry is hitch-hiking and decides to trick him into working for him in a car-theft ring. Good-boy Henry would never consider breaking the law, but becoming an "undercover FBI agent" is an amazing opportunity. Henry is excited and proud to a part of what he believes to be a government job.
Henry grew up with his aunt and uncle and was taught to read his Bible and behave as a good Christian. He did read his Bible but began to question many things. When he meets a girl, he wants to spend every free moment he can with her. Even if it means that Preston will get angry with him.
Even though Preston is lying to Henry, will Henry be able to uncover the truth? Will they get caught, or worse, arrested? What will become of Henry Dampier?

I hate to say that I did not like this book, and to tell you otherwise would be a lie. I could not find the point. To me, the storyline was all over the place. I felt like the author was trying too hard and in doing so, he lost the flow of the novel.
I was confused by the characters and their back stories and how some tied in with the others. Henry was a poor innocent just trying to make money, but he was ignorant too. Preston was in a crime ring and we really don't know too much else about him. At the end, Preston's story becomes even more confusing.
I can't say that I would recommend this for a book club setting either. I am not sure what you would have to talk about. The scattered Bible verses and crazy side stories will not make for a concise discussion. Overall, I found this book odd.
