Holly Talbott may not be 100% involved in the hedgefund wife lifestyle, but she enjoys the perks that come along with not worrying about money. Like, for example, her husband bidding "half a mil" so she can play a corpse on her favorite soap opera. Let's just say Holly may be "down to earth," but she's not complaining.
When her sister-in-law Kiki, drops the bomb that she's divorcing her husband (and in effect the rest of the family) Holly is shocked. She can't possibly imagine what Kiki will do from this point forward. So when it happens to her - obviously not by her own choice - it's safe to say that Holly's whole world is thrown into total chaos.
Thank God for Kiki!
Over the next few months, Holly will find out what it takes to be an "ex-Mrs. Hedgefund" and along the way she'll learn more about herself than she could have imagined.

This book was a slow start for me. I knew that the "ex" part was coming so I was more interested in how/why/when that would happen than I was in all the set-up leading to it.
Once Holly got out on her own, though, the pace really picked up! It was heartwarming to read about her life and love for her child as a single mother and enraging to read about Tim's mistress being in the same room with Holly's son. All the secondary characters were fun, unusual, and added to Holly's life in a tangible way. Of course, my favorite is Elliot. It would be nice to think that all divorced women find their Elliot's.
The potential for a book club discussion depends on your group. For anyone who has ever been closely involved with a divorce - as a parent, sibling, friend, or participant - will have quite a few things to contribute!

- Did you think Holly was too naive about her husband's multiple "business trips?"
- Is Kiki the kind of woman you picture as part of the social elite in NYC? Why or why not?
- How often do you think this type of situation happens in wealthy marriages?
