Gilbert "Sneetz" Schnetele does not want to become a spy for the president of the United States. He wants to relax into middle age with a new baby, a hot wife, and a thriving medical consulting practice. Too bad for Sneetz that his thorough investigation for a murder case he's consulted about turns the "Eagle" eye on his abilities.
Enter Muldoon, a Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist whose getting old, mostly retired, and definitely packing. His job is to convince Sneetz to join Operation Worldwide in enough time to stop an extreme and deadly act of terrorism from wiping out a major part of the world's population.
Because Sneetz is such a good guy (and who could really say no to the president anyway?!), he takes the job. Turns out, he's a natural.
With a quickly-moving plot full of scrupulous detective work, undercover ops, and thrilling car chases, Some Kind of Angel is definitely some kind of exciting!

As always when reading a mystery, I want to feel fully invested in the characters. I want to know why the bad guy does what he does. I want to know why the detective overlooks something so obvious that would solve the case 100 pages earlier. I want to know how it seems that there is always a clue, whether obvious or not, that can be found that will solve the case. And mostly, I want to feel vindicated when the good guy triumphs. This is a tall order for any writer.
Luckily Melvin Harter is spot-on in his detective-writing skills because Sneetz and Muldoon are a great mystery-solving team! Not only are they smart, but they are a perfect combination of brains, brawn, and goodness. How could the bad guy possibly win with these two working against them?
I guess it's always a possibility but I won't ruin it for you ;P
My only caution to the average reader, and by average I mean all of us without medical backgrounds and/or degrees, is that some of the descriptions of the medical processes can be overwhelming. I had to re-read a few passages to be sure I understood what was happening. But it was certainly worth it! This story will definitely give you something to think about long after you've stopped turning the pages.
