Book Club Queen

Dalton Shores by Daniel Schultz

by Eileen O'shea
(Phoenix, Az)

This is a touching novel about a single mother in the 1940's, raising 3 kids on a waitresses pay. She has to put them in an orphan's home, and then gets them out only to live in squalor, until she finally finds someone who can support them decently.

They lived in a gypsy camp and with friends in dilapidated housing. There are humorous parts too. Part of the book follows one of the ladies sons as he grows up as a musician. There ARE some explicit sexual scenes during his life as a musician. There is a happy ending, something I always like.

I recommend it highly, if you're not prudish. Keep a fan close to cool you off.
