Kevin, a U.S. Army captain and Army recruiter, is dead. He was not a casualty of war, but he was a victim of murder. He was murdered while outside the campus where he was recruiting on his morning run. His mother and Uncle were horrified to learn of his death, especially since it didn't happen overseas. His uncle, Jack Donnelly, decides to do some investigating of his own.
Jack Donnelly was more like a father than an Uncle to his sister's son. He was the person that Kevin would go to for support. He vowed to take care of sister after she dealt with an alcoholic husband who died, and another son who stole from her and lied to her repeatedly. Jack promised his sister that he would find out why her son was murdered.
Jack travels to College Heights and becomes involved with the school administration while trying to learn about the murder of his nephew. He makes both friends and enemies along the way. The question that remains is will he ever find out who killed Kevin and why?

Without giving too much away, danger lurks behind every corner and this book will keep you turning its pages until the end. Defending College Heights has an interesting storyline because it is very realistic. Many job fairs, and especially those on college campuses, have Army recruiters present. War is obviously a controversial subject and Stuart has captured the debate of both sides with an attention-grabbing plot.
This book will provide your book club with many discussions. War is an issue that spans the generations. This is a mystery that can generate a good deal of speculative discussion.
