After
keeping the story of abuse to yourself for so long, what did your parents say when they found out?
My
dad said, "I always knew that Kevin wasn't any good." I never wanted them to feel guilty or responsible so I presented it in a way that didn't place
any blame on them.

You
quote C.S. Lewis as saying: "Why love if losing hurts so much?" How would you answer this?
Life
would be painfully lonely without someone or something to love. His quote goes on to say something about not even risking part of your heart to a
dog. You can certainly keep your heart from loving even an animal but in the end we're richer for loving than not risking anything.

You
have written about Grace and Kate, I was wondering how David is doing?
David
is pure joy. He is the happiest little guy. He was smiling the day he was put in my arms and hasn't stopped. He has his moments when this streak
of a temper will pop up but in a few seconds he's over whatever riled him and is smiling again. He absolutely loves our dog and when she chases
him he has this great belly laugh that's contagious for the rest of us!

I
know you have spoken to adult audiences about your abuse; would you ever consider talking to or writing something geared towards a younger
audience?
I
would certainly talk to younger groups. At this time I haven't thought of writing something geared toward that demographic. Interesting thought,
though.

What
are some of your favorite things to do together as a family? Do you plan activities so that your children know about their heritage and that of
yourself and your husband?
We
love to take the kids camping. We're able to take them on short hikes, cook over a campfire, eat outside, and soak up the local sites. We took
them to the Smokies this summer and saw 13 black bears (not while we were hiking, by the way). That was awfully exciting! We just returned
yesterday from a short camping trip to Georgia and took the kids on a great hike to see two waterfalls. It was beautiful. The girls also love to
play games so we make it a point to have game night once a week. All the kids love to swim so we do that regularly in the summer and they all
love pancakes!

Has
Troy finished the office in the attic? Can you tell us what you are working on next in your new office space?
Ha!
No the office is still not completed. It's very close. When you have a full time job it makes it difficult to find time to remodel. Of course
we could hire someone to finish but he says, "No! I started it. I'm finishing it." He promises me it will be done before Christmas. A brand
new book is coming out in late October called The Christmas Secret. Lifetime turned The Christmas Hope into a movie and will air
it on December 12. My husband and I went to Canada to watch part of the filming. Lifetime will also air The Christmas Shoes and The Christmas Blessing
on December 12 as well. That's what’s new! I'm currently writing another novel set in Morgan Hill, TN. Hopefully, that will be out in late 2010
or early 2011.
