Impulse by Ellen Hopkins

by Shay
(California)

This is an AWESOME book! I loved Crank so was totally excited for Impulse to come out.

It's a little depressing at times but kept me interested because the girls different secrets kept coming out slowly throughout the book.

Made sense to me because I had a friend who was a "cutter" and it was really hard to figure out what the right thing to do was. This book made me think about why my friend was doing something to hurt herself.

I think all girls in high school should read this book.

Change me forever!!! NEW
by: Anonymous

This book was flat out amazing! I personally had a deep connection with Conner because i share similar struggles. I did, however, used to cut myself so vanessa also became important to me. Tony, though not my favorite, was very refreshing and I love him all the same! Because Conner was my number one, it was difficult to accept him ending. I will not lie, I bawled my eyes out from the time he stepped over to the time they found the plane! I understand why he did it though. It shows how important opening up and having family support. He not only blocked himself off and withdrew, but he had no loving mom on the side lines. I have put much thought into this book! I week after reading it and I still am far from getting it out of my head! I am a girl who loves the book impulse! Haha a must read.

this book helped me through so much... NEW
by: Krys Seeley

I was cutting, contemplating suicide, all kinds of things.. and then I read this book. I realised that theres someone out there for me! someone who will care about me more than I will ever realise!

Tony was my favorite character, he was so sweet and I loved it when he and Vanessa got together! It was just what they both needed! But when Conner killed himself... I was crying my eyes out! I was! I admit it! I related to him so much! I never felt good enough for anyone and I hated to see him go because it scared me!

I would recommend any of Ellen Hopkin's books to anyone who wants a life-changing experience!

Impulse
by: Teal

Impulse was amazing, although extremely hard for me to read due to the fact my best male friend committed suicide.. I have mutilated myself since I was 11, 7 years later and I completely understand the reasoning given from the character Vannessa. This book helped me move forward with my life, as well as helped me face and deal with my best friends suicide. All of Ellens books have helped me in one way or another, by far my favorite author of all time. She explains everything so well, and sometimes it's as though the things she's writing are thoughts coming directly out of my head. I would like to someday thank Ellen for writing what she does the way she does, it has helped so many teens conquer their inner demons and I'm sure non-teens have been positively effected as well.

Loved it!
by: Ali

Okay, this book was freakin' amazing! I loved it with a passion! My favorite character was Conner which is why when he commited suicide in the end I nearly died. Not to mention, the whole Tony being gay thing got a little on my nerves, because no one goes from gay to bii-sexual that quickly. Um...Vanessa seemed really shy at first, but once you heard her story it was really sad, but I definitely loved the book. The book was amazing. It's my favorite book, been for the past year or so. I would definitely recommend it for those who do seem kind of sad or depressed, because you can relate to it. Um...but this book definitely had an effect on me, it was just amazing. So thanks to Ellen Hopkins because she really got me through a rough time!!! :)

this book atchualy helped me through a hard time. i could relate to these characters, as i can with all of her other books, and as sad as it was, it gave me hope that for as bad as things may get, there is a bright side, and its my choice to let things get me down.

Phenomanal book, The way ELlen portays each charachters perspective is truly magnificant. And I had just seen a comment saying they didn't Understand the Paper Airplane, Well, A few pages earlier it had said Conner folded up his note from home into a paper airplane... hence the signifigance of finding the Note.

Impulse is thee best inside story(ies) of actual mental hospitals. minus the whole boys can go to the bathroom while a girl was going. nobody was aloud in anyone elses rooms. the food was more terrible than what ellen made it out to be. i was in an actual mental hospital for five days&expierenced most of the same things that had happened in impulse i felt like i was in the actual book. with group disscussions and schooling, ellen hopkins is thee greatest author of all time. &i cannot wait till fallout comes out into bookstores,

what is there to say?
by: Forever Effected

Ellen Hopkins is the most brilliant writer I believe I, as a 16 year old girl, has ever witnessed. Her poetic and metaphorical work really hit me hard and I was forever affected by her writing... she is my inspiration and thanks to her, I have kept to writing. Although I may not write as she does, I honor her for sharing her talent and sheer gift with the world.

I just recently read this book and I loved it. I love all of her books though. There are things in there that most likely would never happen but there are things in there would. Vanessa probably would never have gotten away with cutting while she was there. I've been to a place like this and they examine you constantly. And I also cut. Those reasons in the book are very true. I cut three out of the four reasons. Ellen Hopkins has a way with words to make everything sound beautiful despite all the pain that those teens felt. She is an amazing author and I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys reading.

by: Ashley

As you can tell this book is absolutely amazing.

Impulse tells us a story of how when you feel doors close, sometimes there are windows that open. This book scared me which I never thought a book could do.

I have read (In order of first to last read) Burned, Crank, Glass, Impulse. I still haven't read Identical but I have heard it's amazing as well!

Really good books! Way to go Ellen!

I freakin love Ellen Hopkins
by: Mariah Spillman

I read all of her books in one week.
They were all so amazing.

(in order of the ones I read)

Crank: I read this book in 4-5 class periods. It was definitely one of my favorites.

Burned: Not my favorite but totally heart wrenching. The whole wild cat scene was great and I love how Ellen describes everything. Two days to read.

Impulse: This is the one I enjoyed most It was amazing and it inspired me to write a story.

Identical: An a amazing book also, the ending scared me though. I was in shock by it even though I have a strange outlook on things.

Glass: So good I almost couldn't believe it. The ending amazed me too.

I can wait for Tricks and Fallout to come out. I'm so super excited.

Ellen Hopkins is definitely my favorite writer. I had a kitten named Hopkins, and now I have a parakeet named Ellen.

It was an excellent, very real book. Just as Crank, Glass, and Burned all were. Impulse is a book that excells in drawing powerful emotion and eliciting confusion in the reader. It makes you think. And if you don't, it'll leave you coughing in the dust. 5/5!

I'm giving this book 5 stars because I did love it.

I'm not going to lie, I liked Crank better but overall I'd read either one again.

Some people might quit early on in the book because it's hard to understand the writing at first. But give it a real chance - it's worth it!
