It is a work of fiction that tells a story of a girl named Smitha who lives in India where her older sister is to be married. While Smitha is excited for her sister , she cannot feel but disgusted at the way women are treated in Indian society, particularly when it comes to marriage, where the father arranges things things for her and pays a dowry to get the man to marry the woman. Smitha vows to defy this even though her mother says, " We can't change the customs society had been accustomed to for years.It takes a noble person to speak out against these evils." Smitha becomes just a noble person. She becomes an independent woman with her own career and source of income, and, therefore, she takes it upon herself to handle marriage proposals. When she finally meets the man she wishes to marry, they settle down in Malaysia and have a son named Bhasker and the story begins to follow his life.
The second part of the story is so interesting as it deals with the romantic love between Smitha's eldest son who falls in love with an Irish girl who happens to board in the convent school close to his boarding school.
The most thrilling part of the story prompts us to read on and on as Bhasker becomes totally immersed in love and she likewise reciprocates and the two experience a true love that even though she encourages him to go further than that; yet Bhasker felt that he could wait when she was his forever. But fate intervenes for a time and they were separated for a long time as he was selected for studies abroad and he had to leave her. Bhasker meanwhile becomes a famous cardiologist and still he did not forget her and finally when he meets her on board a flight that was bound for Paris, they get a chance to meet each other and talk over the past. He readily accepts her as his wife and nothing could separate them afterward.
This story focuses on the beautiful and wonderful aspects of life that occur even in the middle of the dark and painful moments.Besides there was his younger brother who met a tragic end in a plane crash where his mother survived from the flaming plane that exploded just after landing. The characters go through many ordeals and face many obstacles on their path to happiness but, in the end, they all find true love on their own terms.
The first part of the story brings out the sad state of a lady who had been subjected to suffer hardships brought about by the society where ladies were regarded as inferiors in society and were restricted to remain in the sphere where she was born and was looked down upon by the male sex if they dared to venture out on their own. There was such a time in India but now things are changing slowly but this lady Smitha overcomes all the hurdles in life and comes out successful to lead a family life according to her desire.
