Suyri is an amazingly strong and powerful character who doesn't accurately know her own strength, which makes her vastly lovable to anyone with half a heart.

The novel allows outsiders a glimpse into the life of geishas as they were and provides details into their strictly hidden away world.

The child version of suyri was played by a phenomenal actress who in real life is actually of Chinese descent and had to learn to speak English phonetically for the film version. I think her commitment to the project is admirable and deserves special attentions.

I loved the novel and film so much that even after I set the book down I continued to research the country of japan: their history, the geisha and their customs.
