Moomin Summer Madness by Tove Jansson

by Ethan Rose
(Austin, TX)

When I read this book, which I have done many times, I feel like a child again. I experience the wonder and simplicity of youth. The first time I read it as an adult was right after reading "August 1914" and "The first Circle" by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn which are also very good books, but quite depressing.

The Moomins cleansed and refreshed my spirit. The characters are quite bizarre and very unique, but with very familiar personality traits. The story is adventurous with many odd turnings. In short, it is a children's book which should be required reading for all adults.
