Book Club Queen

My Enemy's Cradle by: Sara Young

This book drew me in. It is a different take of the WWII and holocaust through a girl of nineteen named Cyrla. After Cyrla's mother dies, she is sent to live with her Aunt, Uncle and cousin, Anneke. She lives with them while the War worsens in her previous home, and her father and brothers are taken away. Luckily she is blond haired and blue eyed.

Anneke finds out she is pregnant by her boyfriend Karl, who is a forced German soldier and doesn't support the war. When she goes to tell him, he tells her that he is leaving and doesn't love her. She ends up committing suicide, and Cyrla will take her place in a home for girls pregnant by German soldiers. There is problem with this, she's not pregnant. So her boyfriend and her get busy in hopes of Cyrla getting pregnant. When she arrives at the home, she adjusts and realizes the truth behind Karl's actions, Anneke's death, as well as the love she had needed.

This was a very well written book, I would believe every word was a true story, it was fabulous. The story held true to the historical context, as well as captivated me and sucked me in.
