Need Help with a Themed Menu for The Birth House

by Sarah

We usually do heavy appetizers and dessert for our book club - not a full meal.

Any ideas for the book "The Birth House" by Ami McKay?

Answer
For The Birth House, think about doing a menu based on the area, Nova Scotia. Since your group does apps and desserts, why not try Fresh Strawberry Pie for desert (you can find this recipe in A Taste of Nova Scotia cookbook) as it seems to be a staple around that area.

For apps you can do Lobster Rolls, Salmon Tartar, Shrimp Salad on Toasted Baguette and Mussel Stuffed Mushroom Caps. Seafood is definitely prominent in Nova Scotia. I think you could probably work with any seafood you wish, depending on the likes/dislikes of your group.

Most likely you can google these dishes to get exact recipes.

Also check out our page, Book Club Food, with some of our favorite tried and true recipes. One of them includes a "Best Bruchetta" recipe which is always a fun appetizer. We also included John's "Shrimp Di Oro" of which I have never seen even one left on the plate!

Hope this helps!

Detailed Help!
by: Janet

Hi Queenie D!
Just wanted to say that I was surfing your site trying to decide which book to pick for my club this month. After reading your menu theme suggestions for The Birth House, I'm going to choose it as my book!

Thanks a bunch and I'll let you know how it goes.
