~ Yawdy Rum
Just when Salt Company Executive Mike Lane finds himself the target of a corporate hurricane, ol' Yawdy Rum waltzes, or more appropriately - "jazzes" - his way into Mike's life, spreading his wisdom for how to live more fully.
A job that requires extensive travel and a wife at home dealing with an Autistic son has made Mike realize that perhaps he's not headed in the direction of fulfilling his dreams. But figuring out what his dreams really are and where they might take him personally and professionally is a harder task than Mike bargained for.
When he has the good fortune to sit next to an old Louisiana Southern Gentleman with a Fu Manchu and a fierce love for jazz, his life is forever changed. Through months of a blossoming friendship, Mike starts to uncover the secret wisdom Yawdy uses to lead a happy life. This wisdom pushes him to pursue his true goal of writing a book.
Centered around the idyllic city of New Orleans, and spanning through the devastation and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, The Wisdom of Yawdy Rum will push your belief in who you are to the envelope, making you question your true purpose in life.

Mike Lane inscribed the inside of the book: "Desiree, 'Book Club Queen' I hope you find some lasting inspiration from ol Yawdy Rum." I have to say Mike, I truly did.
I think many of us struggle at some point in our lives with figuring out what it is we "want to be when we grow up." These days a quarter-life crisis is even more common than a mid-life crisis. Kids in their twenties are waking up one day, screaming - "this is not what I want to do with my life!" So when Mike Lane is facing this question as a seasoned adult, the prospect of just up and quitting a good job with good benefits to become a writer could seem really daunting. Mike struggles for some time with this question and at just the right time in his life, he meets a man who has the secret to fulfillment down pat. Yawdy Rum is the quintessential mentor. He's wise, world-traveled, family-oriented, and has small town roots. He knows a thing or two about playing music and has met more than his fair-share of famous musicians.
Without giving away his secret wisdom, suffice to say that what Yawdy has to share is something we all need to hear. This book is appropriate for many different walks of life but if you are someone struggling with the question of your identity, Yawdy will help you find the right direction.
