Selby, South Carolina is the setting for this beautiful story. The town itself is a character as much as the people and animals. The day-to-day lives of the residents are simple and entertaining, but when you throw in a small mystery that spans generations, Selby becomes intriguing as well.
Macy Harris is a writer who moves to Selby and this story is mostly her narrative. The friendships that she makes in this small South Carolina town mean the world to her. She is given the opportunity to write a column for the newspaper and while doing so, experiences the inner workings of the town. Her neighbors and the people that she meets become a part of her family and when they all get together; their stories complete each others.
As readers begin piecing things together, they'll wonder - will the mystery of the Faith Ruby be solved? What about the reasons for Jake Dooley being first on the scene of the railroad accident? Just because Selby is a small town, doesn't mean that it doesn't have its fair share of mysteries!

Is it possible to love a book within its first few pages? After reading The Rhythm of Selby, I can answer this question with a whole-hearted YES! This story is beautifully written and the words flow across the pages. Marti Healy has made me want to pack up my family and our belongings and move to Selby, South Carolina. There is only one problem with that...Selby does not exist. It is completely amazing that Selby is just a figment of imagination, a testament to Ms. Healy's incredible mind.
Even if this story didn't include subtle mysteries, I would be thrilled with it anyway. The mysteries simply add another layer of love for me. I want to befriend ever character; get together with them to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner or just a glass of sweet tea.
This has been added to my list of absolute favorite books! You don't want to miss it!
