Lady Victoria Georgiana Charlotte Eugenie of Glen Garry and Rannoch, or Georgie as she is known to friends, is penniless. As the cousin of the Royal Family, this is just socially unacceptable. So Georgie decides to "rent" herself out for the evenings to gentlemen travelers in search of a refined dinner companion. The only problem is that she lists herself as an escort, causing the wrong kind of men to call on her services.
Thank goodness for her on-again, off-again beau, Darcy, who comes gallantly to her rescue. This unfortunate blunder sparks a series of events beyond Georgie's control, beginning with her return to her childhood home, Castle Rannoch. On her way there, she is confronted by Sir Jeremy Danville of the Home Office who requests her aid in figuring out the culprit behind a string of mysterious accidents within the Royal Family. The agents in charge seem to think it's one of the Royal Family's own!
Through harrowing boat rides, treacherous rock-climbs, grouse shoots gone terribly wrong, and even a lavatory that turns deadly, Georgie finds herself right-smack in the middle of a plot against the crown - and she just might be on the hit list as well!

What a splendid read! I am a sucker for a good mystery, one that that keeps you guessing, has you suspecting every character, and doesn't heavily involve blood and guts. Besides successfully accomplishing these things, Royal Flush is also witty, romantic, and even a touch smarmy when appropriate.
The thing that really shines in this book is Bowen's obvious knowledge of 1930's aristocratic society, coupled with her ability to imaginatively fill in some mysterious historical holes, such as the Lochness monster or the demise of crazy Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale.
As this is the third installment of The Royal Spyness series, we can only hope that Bowen has yet another adventure up her sleeve for Georgie and company!
