Lily Crisp, an American widower, decides to escape life for a while in her house in France. La Pierre Rouge is the setting of a wonderful story of life, love and friendship. She sits down with her faithful friend, Madame Olivetti, and reflects on her life thus far and her family's history.
This is an opportunity for Lily to start fresh.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Annie's descriptions and analogies made me feel as if I was at Pierre La Rogue with Lily. I traveled with her from Idaho to France and Mexico. This book reminds me off Eat, Pray, Love and Under the Tuscan Sun; two of my favorite books.
Lily's ability to retell her life story with the help of Madame Olivetti, was somewhat inspirational for me. Through all the circumstances in her life, Lily had friends and family for support and that was detailed so beautifully.
This is a love story, but not just about romance. Love is explored in this book in many ways and with many differentiating opinions. Each character has their own ways of expressing their emotions, and it is fascinating to read them all. This is an excellent read!

- Think about the cat, Alonso, in the story; do his character traits reflect any of the human characters in this story? How?
- Each character in the book has their own unique opinion regarding love. What do you believe to be true about love?
- Lily is not a crier. If she is upset or mad or stressed, she cleans. How do you handle your emotions? Would you change the way you handle them if you could?
