Self Publisher/ Author

Getting my book published!

Is it true that royalties automatically come with a book contract? How much foot-work does a self publisher have to put in, far as marketing, etc.?

Queenie D's Response:

Congratulations on publishing your book!

The questions you ask are extremely valid and also not ones with easy, cut-and-dry answers.

In response to the royalties question, I'll direct you to this article about publishing.

In response to the marketing questions, the answers are not simple. MANY of the authors we know personally that self-publish and/or publish with an independent publisher spend an enormous amount of time on promotion and marketing.

My advice to you is to purchase Nikki Leigh's Book Promo 101 and 201 guides for authors. She is a wealth of information and will be able to help you figure out the marketing strategy that best fits your needs and budget.

Good luck!

Marketing A Book
by: Michael W Newman

You are so right about marketing "self-published" books. It is a job all by itself. Unless you have lots of time on your hands to promote your work don't try to do it yourself. Fortunately for me I am a dialysis patient and have lots of time on my hands.

It took me almost a year to get my first book on 400 web stores, and all of the major search engines on the internet. Once you discover the secret of internet marketing you start to sell your work. This is a process that would take much to long for me to outline on this page.

Most of my marketing I have done for free. If I have spent $200 in two years it would be a lot.

If anyone needs marketing help I would be more than happy to help them out for free. www.michaelwnewman.com

Queenie D's Response: Thanks Michael! You are a wealth of information for new authors!
