Synopsis

“Shadows and Secrets,” by James M. Watts is a chilling blend of suspense and horror that will keep you guessing until the end. The book begins with a terrifying nightmare scene, followed by a more mundane tragedy, that of protagonist Ray Sanders losing his mother. Having inherited his family home, Ray returns to the small town of Maple Grove and soon finds himself plagued by gruesome visions.

Ray is not alone in having bizarre, unexplained experiences. All of Maple Grove is caught up in something dark and surreal, and Ray's home appears to be the eye of that paranormal storm.
With the help of his cousin, Roy, Ray begins an investigation that will lead him down a frightening path, where he must confront the evil at its source.

Watts has created a cast of characters with real human idiosyncrasies, which makes the supernatural events all that much more frightening. Because the setting and characters are so starkly real, it becomes easy to suspend disbelief as events unfold. Suspense mounts steadily through the book as both the human drama and the supernatural mystery build toward a climax.

The author's unique voice and vivid imagery make this book fresh and unique, though it has enough classic horror/thriller elements to satisfy any fan of the genre. Shadows and Secrets belongs on the “to be read” list for anyone who enjoys the macabre.
