Short Book Summary: Here Today, Gone to Maui

"Having two men go missing in twenty-four hours-that's pretty unusual...even more unusual is when both missing men are named Jimmy James."

Jane Shea can't believe her dream trip to Maui is finally happening. When hunky boyfriend Jimmy shows up an hour early to leave for the airport, she has trouble containing her excitement. No matter what happens, she figures, nothing could be better than a week in Hawaii with the man she loves.

Unfortunately, a worry-free vacation is not in the cards for the lovebirds. Things go wrong right from the start when someone loses their hotel reservation and they end up at the rundown Maui Hi instead of the 5-start Hyatt. When Jimmy goes on a dive but never comes up, the real trouble begins.

Organized, always-planned, level-headed Jane's world is set into tailspin as one harsh realization after another come to light. Jimmy has another lover - and she's on the island! Jimmy is not really Jimmy after all! The hits just keep on coming and don't seem to slow down for Jane to catch her breath...

Short Book Summary: Here Today, Gone to Maui Opinion

This is a clever, witty read. The main character Jane is lovingly annoying and her quirky organizational habits are what make the story so compelling. How did a focused, intelligent woman end up with such a loser? I guess it happens all the time. Brad Pitt style looks are hard to resist.

The author spins an interesting tale of love, deceit, ambition, friendship, and relationships with strangers. The twists and turns, while somewhat unbelievable at times, keep the reader guessing and turning pages quickly to figure out the million dollar question - where and who is Jimmy James?!

Short Book Summary: Here Today, Gone to Maui Discussion Questions

  1. How would you have reacted when Jimmy took you to the Maui Hi instead of the Hyatt?
  2. Is it possible that Jane is just too naive to notice that Jimmy isn't committed to her?
  3. Would you be able to strike up a friendship with Tiara? Why or why not?
