Young Sophie Chabot thinks she knows what she's in for when she leads her boyfriend, Crow, into the woods with a blanket. Sophie knows she is in love and that she wants to experience what that means, physically, with Crow.
An unfortunate turn of events pulls Crow away from Sophie and when he returns, he finds her beaten, raped, and unconscious. Crow makes the bad decision to run, thinking the police will try to pin the crime on him. He's embarrassed and ashamed of his actions but he can't go back and change them.
The small town of Pittsburg, TN may not survive this atrocious act. Nobody is safe from accusation and you won't believe the truth, once it's finally uncovered.

This book is heartbreaking, truly. The loss of innocence is so acute, it's hard for the reader to feel anything but sadness as they traverse the pages of this book.
That said, it's also uplifting in many ways. Cox shows us that life can, and does, go on even under the worst of circumstances. A unique style of narration helps this story come alive for the reader, allowing them to really feel the emotions of each character.
A great book club read with themes like abandonment, parenting decisions, friendships gone bad, and how far a person can be pushed before they break. Don't miss out on this one!
