Elizabeth Brundage's novel is a story about a young adopted girl and the town she lives in. Behind every closed door, is a family with their own secrets. This story delves deep into the lives of the people of this town.
This is not just a fiction novel but a novel of deception, depression, drugs, pornography, prostitution and murder. Even though it may seem like a lot to handle at first, it does all come together.

I have to admit that I had a hard time with the start of this book. There are a lot of characters and background stories that did not tie together at first. I am happy to say that they story line did pick up and it became quite a page-turner.
Some of the content was boldly descriptive and made me blush. Explicit details of the pornography industry was depicted, so be aware if you decide to make this your next book club pick. Adoption is a main theme of the story and could inspire a good discussion. Mysteries abound in a thriller-like feel which is what made me change my mind about the book overall. The author took me for a ride and left me satisfied.
