Staring a Young Adult Book Club
Follow these few simple rules for starting a book club that will be successful!
- Choose 3-4 other people that are interested in reading.
- Decide upon a time and date to meet. A local bookstore, Starbucks, or favorite eating spot is a good choice.
- Decide who will choose the first book you will read. Then decide the order of who chooses books. This avoids future confrontations.
- Choose a way to notify each other about the book choice. Email, myspace, facebook, or text messaging are great ways to share info.
- The book chooser should check out some YA book reviews. Book Club Queen will help you keep up with what other people your age are reading.
- Meet on the agreed upon date. Catch up a little, eat something, get a Frap, then TALK ABOUT THE BOOK. Check out our general book club questions for help.
- Have fun and learn from each other! Remember, there is no such thing as a bad opinion, stupid question, or wrong answer when you're discussing your personal thoughts. Difference of opinion is okay!
