The Brief History of the Dead by Kevin Brockmeier
by Andrew
One of the most inventive, exhilarating and disturbing books I have ever read, Kevin Brockmeier's The Brief History of the Dead is absolutely spellbinding in its creation of a "new" world between life and death and what it is like to live there. The book is also ironically and humorously apocalyptic, with a remarkable heroine who is transversing the Antarctic ice shelf in one reality, while simultaneously a newspaperman is trying to make sense of curious developments in the "new" reality. How Brockmeier conceived of his plot and its stunning, mind-numbing resolution is beyond me, but it made for a great read that resonates with me till this day. Return to Home |
