The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman
by James
(NW Arkansas)
The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman is a must read for anyone in any kind of relationship.
Dr. Chapman frames a new point of reference for the reader and enables them to understand the state of their relationship.
He re-defines the personality profiles that most of us are familiar with. Many have heard someone referred to as a “Type A” personality, or “melancholy”, or some other type of personality “type”. Dr. Chapman breaks people down into five distinct “Love Languages”. These “Love Languages” describe how a person gives and receives love. A couple of examples are: Acts of Service and Gift Giving.
The book has many examples from Dr. Chapman’s real-life counseling practice. (Names are changed, of course). Through these examples and supplementary text, he tries to help people to learn to relate to each other.
I highly recommend this book. It has given me insight into how to make my marriage stronger. My wife and I now have an instant barometer of our relationship by simply saying a word or two. Incidentally, it also helped me to realize why my first marriage failed miserably. We were just not communicating in each others language.
