Book Club Queen

The Ganymeade Protocol

by Pam Sidiris
(Orlando, Fl)

This great short novel triggered a REALLY animated 3 hour discussion in our book group. It's a near-future novel in which America has gone mad and two young women, seeing refuge, wind up as part of a continuously sailing piratical fleet of refugees in the Caribbean. The work bounces back and forth between the near future plot line and a well-researched mock history of what led to "The Fleet."

The work is a breeze of a read, all the characters are eccentrics, and the dialogue is very, very well done (the author is primarily a playwright).

What got the group going was the fact that A) the work is really highly political and B) the well-drawn image of this kind of free stateless-state was so intriguing that we we couldn't stop talking about the feasibility of it.

The book is available as both a download ($3.75) and as a paperback ($12.95) from:

Even those of us that it shocked or infuriated agreed that it was a well written piece and well worth the read.
