The Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells

THE YAYA SISTERHOOD BOOK SYNOPSIS

Refreshing novel about southern women and their relationships with each other and their families.

Set in rural Louisiana, The YaYa Sisterhood is the crazy story of a group of southern debutantes all trying to understand marriage, being mothers, and the pain that comes with life and the decisions we make. Author, Rebecca Wells is a native of Louisiana. She quotes Henri Nouwen on page 2 of this novel as an intro for what we can expect the story to be about.

“Forgiveness is the name of love practiced among people who love poorly. The hard truth is that all of us love poorly. We need to forgive and be forgiven every day, every hour -- unceasingly. That is the great work of love among the fellowship of the weak that is the human family."

The gals traverse through life sharing secrets and the divine "sisterhood" they create and pass from their generation to their children.

QUEENIE B SAYS

Ya Ya's - Ya gotta love them!! An oldie but goodie!

Such an easy, fun read whether you like Chic Lit or just a good old hometown southern story of the female gender covering love, tragedy, hope and renewed kinship. You will laugh and cry as you read, and fall in love as these southern belles party their way into your heart.

The bond between mother and daughter written about so honestly is moving. My favorite character without a doubt - Vivi! She is crazy, kind, loving, full of pride and in the end the hero. Sensual and well written, this is a story for the romantic heart. If you have a cast of kindred spirits in your life, you will relate especially to the drama that the women face together and alone.

THE YAYA SISTERHOOD DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. These women in this book are all very close throughout their entire lives. How does this affect Sidda?
  2. Why was Viv's mother so rigid and cold?
  3. Vivi and Sidda's relationship is one of great love and complication. How does this situation get resolved over the course of this book?

Want to combine a book and movie for your next book club, this one is for you! Add a dish of Cajun chicken and some "Bloody Mary's" to your dinner and enjoy!
