Hiking Food
by: Kara

Oh I would have so much fun with this theme! My son hiked the entire AT and I helped by dehydrating and packing many of his supply packages. So if I were to host this I would use all hiking things as props. The center piece of the table would be a cardboard box from the post office. This to represent the supply boxes that hikers have mailed to them with supplies. Pack it full of non-perishable hiking food. For appetizers you must serve GORP! That is a combination of raisins, peanuts, M&Ms, other nuts and dried fruits. Snickers bars for dessert. Peanut butter is another big staple. My son ate it plain with a spoon, or smeared it on a tortilla then drizzle honey on top of that. You could make those then cut into wedges to serve. Cheese and summer sausage is also a big favorite of AT hikers. It provides the calories protien and fat needed for the hike. A few nalgene bottles with water or flavored water for drinks or props. Sounds like fun,
Enjoy!

Oh and on the box address it to one of the post offices in a trail town. Then all over the box in large marker mark "hold for AT through hiker"
