Trace: The Divine Sequence by Randy Valentine

Genetic Thriller, published 10/2010 346 pages
Seeking the DNA of Jesus, biblical-genetics researchers Sonja Martin and Elana Dutros come into conflict with a sinister Irishman, Rigel, whose hatred of the Church empowers his own search for some of this genetic "guld dust" to fuel his genetic engineering. To the women come two sources of support: Eric Stanfels, the failed CIA operative and Mordecai Rubin, a disenfranchised Mossad agent as the women are in conflict with Rigel's plans to scam a Church that had forsaken its people, especially the most innocent of its "lambs".
The search for Jesus' DNA creates a tale of deceit, retribution, murder and romance that takes these explorers from Ireland to Belarus, Armenia, Jerusalem and finally St. Catherine's Monastery on Mt. Sinai, Egypt. The reader is confronted with the ultimate conundrum: Why does a loving God allow such horrible things to happen to the innocents who love him so dearly? The ramifications of finding Jesus' DNA are massive to the religions of an Abrahamic God.
"Psychological realism embedded in a compelling and intensely absorbing story. Masterful characterizations in settings which are current and historical. Written with uncommon style, depth and excellence." Dorothy L. Spitzer, Psy.D.
Outside the room, in corridors clogged with smoke, but with stilettos of light cutting through this smog, Mordecai led Eric and Sonja to the steps leading to the outside courtyard where curious monks surprisingly stared in fear and panic. For these men, so isolated from anything, it would have been hard for them to act, except one did. He grabbed a first aid kit and brought it to Eric, hoping he knew how to stop the bleeding. In and out of consciousness, everything for a physically-fractured Sonja was now a blur, obscured in some fog of fear and haze of hopelessness. Engulfed in this desperate dusk of despair, as darkness seemed to lead her to some terminal transition, a brilliant light shined through, just like she read about in those near-death experiences. Finally, an emotionally-depleted Sonja knew this was her time to ride that silvery shaft to salvation.
