Trichet by Carol Preston

by Carol Preston
(Franklin, TN)

Trying to make sense of it all, Mary stared at the ceiling. Outside, she heard crickets chirping and smiled a little thinking about Doc calling her "Trichet." For all I know, I imagined that, too.

Unable to sleep, she sat up in bed and looked out the window. She made a wish on a star that she would see her friend again someday.

She also wished that her brother was dead.

A childhood of abuse sets Mary up for a lifetime of running. She runs from those who love her; she runs from the truth; and in a sense, she runs from herself. In an effort to do so, an overactive imagination paired with the fact that Mary tip-toes on the edge of mental illness, takes the reader on a fascinating journey that’s almost unbelievable. However, it’s written in such a way that the reader feels that they are living these events with Mary, no matter how unlikely they sound.

A story that has parallel scenes, cleverly interwoven with twists and turns, Trichet captures the reader’s interest and keeps it until the very end. Engaged in the process of watching Mary navigate through a maze of overwhelming events in her life that seem like a huge puzzle of mismatched pieces that must somehow fit together, the reader will be thoroughly entertained.
