Twenty-Five Years Ago Today by Stacy Juba

by Stacy Juba
(New England)

Synopsis: Obit writer and editorial assistant Kris Langley feels like the newsroom slave - that is, until she stumbles across an unsolved murder while compiling "25 Years Ago Today" items from the microfilm. Determined to launch her reporting career, Kris investigates the cold case of Diana Ferguson, an artistic young cocktail waitress obsessed with Greek and Roman mythology.

She soon learns that old news never leaves the morgue and that yesterday's headline is tomorrow's danger, for finding out the truth about that night twenty-five years ago may shatter Kris's present, costing her love, her career, and ultimately, her life.

Advance Praise:
"When you finish this mystery, you realize there was plenty throughout the book to let you discern who done it, but you didn't. It's a fun trip."
John Hourihan, award-winning columnist, Connecticut Post

"Part Jimmy Olson, part Victoria Warshawski, Kris Langley embodies the newspaper business's perennial tension between the cold, hard facts and the complex dramas of people caught in the act of living their lives."
Russ Olivo, Assistant Editor, Woonsocket Call

"This is not just a murder mystery - it is also a poignant story about the complexity of family relationships, the search for closure and the importance of forgiveness . . . Once you start this book, it will be hard to put down. Not only will you be surprised at the ending, you will be filled with admiration at how every piece has fallen into its perfect spot."
Bonnie Adams, freelance reporter, The Worcester Telegram and Gazette, and the Town Crier Publications

Engaging Mystery
by: Carol Baier

Kris Langley writes for her small town newspaper, churning out obituaries and a daily column devoted to what happened locally 25 years ago. The column's a snooze, and Kris fights for meatier assignments. The managing editor, Attila the Hun in high heels, is not about to oblige.

Life chugs on for Kris (but not the reader -- the body shows up on the first page) until, while searching for potential column subjects, she discovers an unsolved murder. In the course of uncovering the dark secrets of the murdered woman and her family, she's forced to deal with one of her own. Throw in Greek mythology, crushing guilt, a romance, and dysfunctional families, then mix with a hothouse of grievances and competition in the newsroom. There's even a recipe for French toast. I made it the next day, and it's delicious.

Wonderful mystery!

This is a wonderful mystery written by a new mystery writer. It is a book I could not put down until the end. Well written, with characters that come alive on the pages. You can feel their emotions as the story unfolds. The twists and turns and plot keep you spellbound right up until the end with the answer of whodunit. And that answer will surprise you as it did to me.

I highly recommend this book to everybody out there who likes a good mystery and am looking forward to reading many more by this newest mystery writer, Stacy Juba.
