Book Club Choices: Urgent Care by CJ Lyons

Urgent Care by CJ Lyons

"A strange flutter took control of her heart. Not fear, not panic...anticipation."

The lives of doctors, nurses and hospital staff are never dull; especially at Angels of Mercy Medical Center. Compounded with the adrenaline rush of the job itself and the guilt of keeping secrets, the women of Angels of Mercy are exhausted. Nora, Lydia, Gina and Amanda are the four women that Urgent Care follows.

Nora is a wonderful nurse that has been hiding a painful and life-threatening secret. In this book, that secret comes back to haunt her and the people closest to her. Lydia is an ER doctor who feels the need to take her safety into her own hands. She is also struggling to let people get close to her. Her troubled past is about to catch up to her and is putting lives into jeopardy. Gina has to deal with the fact that her boyfriend is a police officer and that his job is a dangerous one. Amanda has to decide between family connections and sticking up for herself and what her instincts tell her.

Book Club Choices: Urgent Care Opinion

Urgent Care is a fast-paced, heart- stopping, good read. I haven't read the other books in the Angels of Mercy series, but after reading this one, they are on my list. This story is so well written, you almost expect to hear about Nora and the other women on your local, evening news. The women were not superficial; they were some of the most in-depth characters I've come across.

This would make for an excellent book club pick. There are so many conversations to be had about each character. The author is very knowledgeable about the situations that can take place in a hospital and the everyday dangers of working in one. If you are a fan of medical television dramas, and even if you are not, do not miss this latest book by CJ Lyons!

Discussion Questions

  1. Lydia has a lot of responsibilities in the ER, however her past has kept her on the run and she doesn't know much about family. Why do you think she has stayed at Angels of Mercy hospital??
  2. Jerry, Trey, Seth and Lucas were the men behind these strong, often stubborn, women. How do you think they felt when they couldn't break through the walls their partner put up?
  3. Would you want to work in a hospital like Angels of Mercy if you were given the chance?
